INDIAN JOURNAL OF PEDIATRICS NATIONAL PROFESSIONAL AWARDS

Applications/Nominations are invited for two National awards of the IJP namely “Dr. K. C. Chaudhuri Lifetime Achievement Award” and “Dr. I. C. Verma Excellence Award” for pediatricians. The nominations for the previous year will automatically be considered for the next year and the nominees of last year need not apply unless they want to update their CV.

Dr. K. C. Chaudhuri Life Time Achievement Award, is given in honor of Dr. K. C. Chaudhuri who was the first Pediatrician in India and was the founder editor of Indian Journal of Pediatrics. This award was introduced in 2008 and is given to a pediatrician who has contributed significantly in the field of academics, research and patient care (in India or abroad).  

The recipient of the award for 2016 is Dr. Sunit C. Singhi. The past recipients have been: Dr. Meharban Singh (2008), Dr. T. Jacob John (2009), Dr. M. K. Bhan (2010), Dr. K. N. Aggarwal (2011), Dr. O. N. Bhakoo (2012), Dr. Y. K. Amdekar (2013), Dr. D. Vidyasagar (2014) and Dr. M. K. C. Nair (2015), Dr. P. S. Rao (2016)

The guidelines for the award are as follows:

  • Presented to a Senior pediatrician for lifetime accomplishments that are outstanding and widely recognized.
  • Should have played leadership role in the field of Pediatrics in India.
  • For Pediatricians of Indian origin working in India or abroad.
  • The letter of nomination/application should outline lifetime accomplishments of the nominee deserving the award, along with a full curriculum vitae.  
  • The recipient will be invited to give an oration at the meeting.
  • Travel within India and stay in Delhi will be covered by IJP.
  • The oration award will consist of a Cash prize of Rs. 25,000, Plaque and Citation certificate.

  • Dr. I. C. Verma Excellence Award was instituted in 2013 to recognize high quality research by pediatricians below the age of 50 years. The recipients of awards have been Dr. Archana Patel (2013), Dr. Sourabh Dutta (2014), Dr. Rakesh Lodha (2015) and Dr. Sameer Bakhshi (2016), Dr. J. L. Mathew (2016)

       The guidelines for award are as follows:

  • Presented to a pediatrician below the age of 50 years.
  • Should have carried out outstanding research in the field of pediatrics.
  • For pediatricians of Indian origin working in India or abroad.  
  • The letter of nomination/application should outline significant research of the nominee deserving the award, along with a full curriculum vitae.  
  • The recipient will be invited to give an oration at the meeting.
  • Travel within India as well as stay in Delhi will be covered by IJP.
  • The award will consist of a Cash prize of Rs. 15,000, Plaque and Citation certificate.

Original Research Award for the Best Thesis by Postgraduates - 2018

Applications are invited for the Best Thesis Awards for the MD Postgraduates, 2018. Candidates eligible for the award are those who submitted their thesis in 2017, and the same has been approved by their university. The thesis submitted by DNB students would also be eligible.

           Important guidelines:-

         1. The paper should be in format of original article (in style of IJP, please see instruction to authors) running to maximum 2500-3000 words  with 30 references.

      2. There should be a one page summary stating why the thesis deserves the award.

       3. The Head of the Department should certify that the work is of the candidate and that the thesis has been accepted by the institute/ university

       4. It is recommended, although not mandatory, that the awardees publish the research work in “Indian Journal of Pediatrics”.

       5. Top 12 thesis will be given preference for publication as original articles in the journal.

       6. There is no limit to the number of students who can apply from a department/ institution.

Three awards will be given in 2018.

Award for the Best Grand Round in Pediatrics by Senior Residents - 2018

                                      

Applications are invited for the Competitive Grand Rounds (CGR) by Senior Residents (Post MD Residents) from different institutions in India. This will be held in September 2018 alongwith the Dr. K. C. Chaudhuri Oration. The main aim of this activity is to prepare the Senior Residents for leadership role in pediatric research and academic career.

The format of CGR should be illustrative cases based on a single theme with clear educational messages. Duration of presentation: 20 minutes and 5 minutes for question- answer by judges. Two Senior Residents from an institution may be involved in the presentation.

Institutions that wish to participate are requested to submit one page summary of what they plan to present; along with the names of the Senior Residents who will make the presentations. The submissions will be judged for their clinical importance, originality and teaching potential. They should also submit a copy of their CV.

Selection process: Four institutions will be shortlisted by three experts on basis of the summaries submitted. They will make oral presentations in September 2018.

The IJP will reimburse travel expenses for Senior residents and one faculty member from all the 4 selected institutions.

Awards: There will be two awards, Rs. 25,000 for the 1st award (Rs. 10,000 for the institution and Rs. 15,000 for the presenters); and Rs. 20,000 for the 2nd award (Rs. 8,000 for the institution and Rs. 12,000 for the presenters).

IJP TRAVEL GRANT FOR ATTENDING MEDICAL CONFERENCES TO PRESENT A PAPER

 1.Six grants in a year are available; Three national and three dedicated to a specific state: One from North-East India; one from Bihar/ Orissa/ Madhya Pradesh; one from Rajasthan/ Gujarat/ Punjab.

2.The applications should reach us 8 weeks prior to the conference.

3.Postgraduate students/ Senior Residents/ Fellows/ Junior Faculty are eligible to apply.

4.Grant will cover journey to and fro, registration fee (early bird only) and limited local expenses. Total expenditure not to exceed Rs. 20,000 per candidate.

5.Applicant should submit a copy of the research paper to be presented at the conference, along with the letter of acceptance by the conference organizers.

6.The application should be forwarded through the Head of the Department along with a letter certifying that the applicant is not being supported by any other source.

7.Applicant should explain in 200 words why he/she deserves the grant.

8.Applicant should later on submit a copy of bills and attendance certificate.

9.Applicant should acknowledge at the end of his presentation that it has been partly supported by IJP and a report on the same should be submitted.

Visiting Professorships

In this scheme funds will be provided to invite a Professor from an institution outside your city to come and spend 3 days for lectures, clinical teaching and take interactive sessions with the students. Cost of travel, stay upto maximum Rs. 20,000/- will be provided. A certificate will be provided by IJP to the visiting professor. This scheme is to cover visits of professors from India only. A banner stating that the activity has been supported by IJP should be placed at the site of the event. It is mandatory to submit a report of the activity supported.

Three grants of maximum Rs. 20,000 each are available: One in each quarter (Jan – April; May – August; Sept. – Dec.). The applications should reach us 6 weeks before the event.

GRANTS FOR TRAINING OF FACULTY / ASSISTANT PROFESSORS IN INDIA

Applications are invited from young faculty members / Assistant Professors who are interested in getting training in any Pediatric specialty from any institution in India. This scheme is to cover training of faculty members / Assistant professors from India only. The applicant should submit a certificate that the host institution has agreed to provide him the training.

Two grants of maximum Rs. 50,000 each are available in an year: Once every 6 months (Jan – June; July –Dec.). The grant will be released on submission of expenditure details, bills, photos etc. The applications should reach us 6 weeks before the event. It is mandatory to submit a report on the outcome of the training.
